Schools and Kindergarten Design

The design process for Schools and Kindergartens consists of the following elements

Wendy & Kate will arrange to meet you on site to get to know you and your team, the playground site, and the plans and ideas you have for your playground landscape. If required, we can also facilitate a workshop with staff and/or students to encourage ‘ownership’ of the final design, of the students and staff.  Our consultation endeavours to ensure that the design outcome responds to the needs and budget of the school or kindergarten.

Fee Proposal

After the initial consultation we will refine the design brief and prepare a fee proposal for your the approval of your team. The fee proposal outlines the specific services we will provide, the deliverables (plans, drawings and estimates) and the fees associated with each stage of our work.

Concept Design and Design Development

Once the fee proposal is approved we will collate any base plan information, measure the site where required, conduct a site analysis, and prepare sketch designs and concepts. These concepts will provide a range of ideas and solutions for your playground. We will present and discuss our concepts with you and your team before finalising the playground design, incorporating any feedback.  This final plan will include greater detail about the materials and provide a plant palette and an estimate of the construction costs.

Construction Documentation

The design is drafted with all the construction details, measurements and materials specifications required for construction including a planting plan identifying plant species, quantities, sizes and locations. We will work with builders*, engineers* and architects* to ensure any structural elements are resolved and comply with current Australian standards and regulations.

We have an established network of landscape contractors, builders and consultants who can construct your landscape. We have many years of experience with contract administration and project supervision for large and small projects and can provide a fee proposal for those services at your request. Our good relationships and hands on approach with contractors, guarantee any minor changes to the design or the planting can be resolved and implemented easily. We are also very happy to liaise with contractors of your choice or can tender the project out on your behalf.

Maintaining your beautiful landscape in the early stages is a key to its success. We incorporate an initial 4-6 weeks of maintenance into the project estimates or tenders. After that time we can provide a suggested maintenance program or develop one with a recommended landscape maintenance contractor on your behalf or provide contact details of some reputable maintenance contractors for you to follow up.

*Where external consultants are required, we can source them and liaise on your behalf, however, they will provide information about their fees and extent of their services.
